Shawna won all four of her classes this weekend at the Wellington Classic Dressage I in Wellington, FL. The highlight of the weekend was winning the Prix St. Georges class on Saturday, a very competitive class with more than 15 riders. By winning this class, Shawna becomes eligible to win the $5,000 cash prize for winning all three Prix St. Georges tests in the Wellington Classic Winter Series. Her winning score of 73.750% was a full three percentage points above the rest of the field and a great start to her Wellington season.
On Saturday Shawna also won the Second Level Test 3 with Tonya Rowe’s Rigo. This was Rigo’s first second level test after winning the USDF Region 3 Championships at First level last October. Rigo was a good boy and scored a respectable 67.209%.
Sunday was the second half of the Small Tour for Shawna and Come On III. They swept it in style by winning the Intermediare I with a score of 71.000%. It was a good test with plenty of 8’s. A few bobbles in the halts kept it from being as spectacular as Saturday’s Prix St. Georges score.
Shawna then waited almost 7 hours for her second ride of the day with Rigo in the Second Level test 4. This was Rigo’s first qualifying ride for the Second Level Championships and it looked for a while like it was going to be a rainout. A huge storm came up 30 minutes before the start of the ride. The arenas held up well enough that rides continued and Shawna rode little Rigo out into a driving rainstorm for their warm-up. Rigo handled all the spooky weather in style and focused on his job. They scored a 69.286% to win the class.
Shawna’s strong wins at this show establish her as one of the top riders to watch in the small tour this season. It also adds a show to an already busy schedule. She will be competing Come On III in the Prix St. Georges in the second leg of the Wellington Classic Winter Series in early February.
