Shawna took 3 horses down to Ocala, FL this weekend to compete in 5 classes at the USDF Region3 Championships. They returned to Aiken with 4 wins and a second place.
Shawna and Come On III won the Intermediare I Championship on Saturday with a 70.000%. Last year at the Region 3 Championships the pair won both the Fourth Level and Prix St. Georges classes. This steady and predictable success further validates the expert training Shawna has put into this horse in her 3 years of ownership. She and Come On III had a solid ride in the Intermediare I Freestyle scoring 73.800% to finish in second place.
Beth Daniels’ Mozart and Tonya Rowe’s Rigo also return to Aiken as Regional Champions.
Shawna and Mozart teamed up to defend the Fourth Level Championship that she and Come On III won last year. They scored well enough to best a class that included the second-ranked horse in the United States at this level. On Sunday Shawna and Mozart held it together in ominous weather and gusting winds to win the Third Level Championships. Shawna and Rigo dominated a big First Level championship class on Sunday morning for a win. They scored a 72.763% to win by a large margin. Both Beth and Tonya were at the show to cheer their horses to victory.
Shawna had put in just over a year of training on Mozart and Rigo going into the Championships. Success at this level of competition further establishes Shawna as not only a world-class rider, but also a world-class trainer.
The Region 3 Championships cap off a great stretch-run to Shawna’s season. The last 3 months were a lot of hard work fine-tuning the training for this event and the Developing Horse Championships. This is great momentum leading up to the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL in 2 months.
