Shawna finally started in her first competition of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington on February 8-9. She competed in the USEF High Performance Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire I classes which are designated qualifying events for the US Equestrian Team for the Pan American Games.
After more than 4 months out of the show ring, the cancellation of the Jan Brink clinic and the change of date for the Gold Coast Opener due to the Herpes virus, it was a reasonable start to the season. She finished 5th in both classes with scores 64.583% of in the Prix St. Georges and 67.167% in the Intermediaire I. It was Come On’s first start in Intermediaire 1. While she and Come On III certainly didn’t have their “best stuff”, they did catch the eye of a few important people.
On Saturday of the event, Shawna was asked to ride Come On for Klaus Balkenhol, the coach for the US Equestrian Team. After the ride, she was invited to participate in the Developing Horse and Rider clinic taught by Klaus and US Olympian Debbie McDonald. The clinic is scheduled on February 20-22 in Wellington, FL.
